Questions about the product

What is special about ClipClap®’s clipless pedal adapter?

ClipClap®'s clipless pedal adapter is the first product that turns any shoe into a clipless shoe in seconds! It combines the features of cycling shoes with those of normal shoes and ensures that every cyclist can enjoy the best of both worlds. More efficient and safer than alternatives such as straps and cages, lighter than most clipless shoes and easier to store than any other cycling shoe on the market.

The clipless pedal adapter consists of a base plate with spikes and a strap that is coated with anti-slip rubber. This ensures an absolutely firm hold between the strap, base plate and shoe. Thanks to the modular design, the base plates and straps can be combined with each other as desired and easily changed at any time. If the strap gets dirty, it can be washed in the washing machine and the base plate can be cleaned with water.

Why are there two variants?

Thanks to the two different versions, ClipClap® is compatible with almost all clipless pedal systems available on the market.

  • EXPLORE (yellow): Designed for two-mount systems, compatible with Shimano SPD, Crankbrothers MTB, Time MTB, Magped MTB, Look X-Track, Xpedo MTB, and many other pedal systems.
  • ROAD (blue): Designed for three-mount systems, compatible with Shimano SPD-SL, Look Keó, Magped Road, Xpedo Road, Wahoo Speedplay, and many more.

What are cleats?

Cleats are the connecting piece between the pedal and the clipless shoe or the clipless pedal adapter. They are available from a variety of manufacturers in different designs. In principle, however, they differ mainly in the arrangement of the mounting holes. There are two-hole cleats (EXPLORE) or three-hole cleats (ROAD). Cleats are usually supplied with the pedals. Since they can wear out after a while, they can also be purchased separately.

What are the benefits of clipless pedals?

Clipless pedals make cycling more efficient - whether you're a hobbyist or a professional. The direct connection between the shoe and the pedal increases pedaling efficiency through the additional traction it provides. However, the shoes you normally need are expensive and impractical. Normal running is severely restricted with these shoes, which is why they are not very easy to integrate into your normal everyday life - so you usually need another pair of everyday shoes in addition to the clipless shoes. Clipless shoes that don't make running more difficult in this respect are very limited and expensive.

Do ClipClap®'s clipless pedal adapters fit every shoe?

ClipClap® ROAD and EXPLORE work with any shoe. Of course, some shoes are generally more comfortable for cycling than others. Therefore, we recommend the following:

  • Using ClipClap® with open shoes or sandals can be dangerous and/or uncomfortable. Cycling with open shoes is not recommended!
  • Using ClipClap® with barefoot shoes may cause pressure points due to their flexible soles and typically thin upper materials. This also applies to other shoes with thin or flexible soles.
  • For all types of shoes: the strap must be securely fastened, and the base plate must sit under the shoe sole. Otherwise, smooth disengagement from the pedal cannot be guaranteed.

Which shoe sizes is the adapter suitable for?

The adapters are very flexible thanks to two sizing options. We can say with certainty that the straps fit shoe sizes 35-46. Depending on the shoe (especially depending on the height of the sole) you can also use larger and smaller shoes. We already have customers with other sizes. If it doesn't fit your shoes, you can send the adapters back to us within 30 days.

Are there different sizes depending on shoe size?

No. The straps are adjustable in size (click here for a video tutorial on size adjustment) and the base plate is one size fits all.

What is the difference between ClipClap® and Straps?

Straps are a compromise between efficiency and safety. They are firmly mounted/attached to the pedals and either tied just as tightly around the shoes, which poses a risk in traffic, as it is not always possible to simply get out in an emergency. During planned stops, the connection must be released manually. Or they are slightly loosened, meaning the shoe is not firmly connected to the pedal. With an absolutely firm connection from the foot to the pedal that can still be released quickly and safely at any time, ClipClap ® combines the functionality of a conventional clip-in shoe with the comfort of a casual shoe in an innovative way. ♥

What happens if the Clix adapter gets dirty?

If the belt gets dirty, you can put it in a cloth bag in the washing machine at 30° and clean the base plate with warm water and a brush.

Where is ClipClap®’s Clix adapter manufactured?

All components of the base plate, including both plastic and metal parts, are produced in Germany. The plastics are made from recycled granulate. The straps are sewn in Serbia and then shipped to us. Everything is assembled, packaged, stored, and shipped from our facility in Cologne. This is done in collaboration with the Alexianer workshops in Cologne, where we create meaningful employment opportunities and support individuals on their journey back into the workforce.
